III International competition
«INTERFOLK»
November 13 – 15, 2010. Saint Petersburg
PARTICIPANTS:
- Vocal groups performing folklore music: choruses and bands
- Dance groups performing popular and folklore dances
- Instrumental groups: orchestras and bands, performing folklore music
- Teams enacting fragments of folk celebrations, customs, ceremonies, popular games, etc.
- A team should include no less than three members; no other limitations are placed on age or number of participants!

CATEGORIES:
À – folklore vocal, authentic folklore (choruses and folklore ensembles)
B – classic vocal and modern adaptation of folklore music, (choirs and ensembles )
Ñ – folklore vocal (soloists)
D – choreographic ensembles (folklore dances)
Å – folklore dances (soloist, pair)
F – instrumental bands and orchestras (folklore music)
G – instrumental music (soloist with folk tunes)
No limitations are placed on age or number of participants.
CONTEST PROCEDURE
The contest shall consist of 2 rounds.
12 November
There arethe rehearsals of the participants on the contest stage. Every group has the time of rehearsal on the stage with microphones and CD player. The schedule of the rehearsals makes the secretary of the competition beforehand.
13 November - The First round
Auditions are held in the presence of spectators.
To participate in the First round artists will present two pieces based on popular (folklore) material of any country, the whole performance during no more than 10 minutes.
Upon completion of the First round the jury will determine winners and diploma holders of contest, and will award special prizes.
Summing up and distribution of awards to winners and diploma holders of the Festival will be carried out based on the jury records. Performers which took part in trials will be awarded the following titles:
- Winner (gold, silver and bronze diplomas by categories)
- Diploma holder (three classes, by categories)
- Participant
- Special prices of the jury (by categories)
Main evaluation criteria:
- Quality and technical skill of competitors;
- Art value of repertoire, ethnographic accuracy (for authentic folklore) or else originality and quality of arrangement of an oeuvre for other categories;
- Representation of local material, both traditional, and modern, in repertoire;
- Conformity and use of costumes, traditional music instruments, property;
- Scenic realization of folklore, originality of director's solution.
15 November - The Second round
Contest will be held in the presence of spectators. The order of performance is established by drawing lots.
Only the Gold and Silver Winners (by decision of the jury) will pass in the Second round. To participate in the second round each team will perform one piece based on popular (folklore) material of any country lasting no more than 3 minutes. Artists may not repeat any pieces which they performed in the first round.
By results of the Second round the best teams are awarded:

CONTEST JURY
The jury for the First (elimination) round will be formed out of Russian and foreign professional experts.
Two jury teams will be formed for the second round:
- Expert jury (will include professional experts);
- Independent jury (will include director of international word festival, the leaders of the culture organizations and the head of groups not participating in the Second round).
Spectators will take part in voting for the winner of "Audience Choice Award".
TECHNICAL CONDITIONS
All competitors are in the same conditions. Organizing committee provides:
- The piano (other instruments on the participants charge);
- Six vocal microphones;
- Six instrumental microphones;
- CD player.
Attention! Using of the phonogram (+) for vocal groups is NOT PERMITTED!
PARTICIPATION FEE
To participate in contest, artists should submit an application and pay a fee:
Soloists – 30 euro
Duets (pairs) – 40 euro
A group of less than 12 members - 50 euro (per group)
A group of more than 12 members - 100 euro (per group)
The participants pay the fee just after sending the application form and not later that September 1, 2010. In case of refusal after September 1, 2010 the entrance fee doesn’t refund.
The Organizing committee will send the bank detail after receiving the application form.
REQUEST FOR PARTICIPATION
To participate in the competition you should fill in the application form and send it by e-mail to: interfolk@mail.ru , or by fax: +7-812-328-39-21, not later than September 1 , 2010.
Materials to be attached to the application are the following:
- Background (no more than 10 lines in Russian and in English);
- Colour photographs of a team (in JPG (JPEG) format, no less than 2 MB, or by mail);
- Audio- or video records (send by mail to: 199004 Russia, Saint Petersburg, 2 Liniya, 17-28);
- Proposed repertoire.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL
The accommodation and travel to and from competition place on the charge of the participants.
The Organizing committee will help to organize the accommodation, meals etc…
Creative organization "Art Attache" is provider of accommodation, meals and culture program (excursions, bus, guides) for the participants during the festival.
