III International Folklore Festival

«INTERFOLK» in Russia

OBJECTIVES OF THE FESTIVAL The key object of the Festival is to promote interaction between cultures in the field of folk art. The essential idea of the Organizers comes down to assemble teams from different countries of the world in St. Petersburg for close interaction, with a view to afford further cross-enrichment of cultures and to promote international cultural cooperation. Another idea of the Festival amounts to handing national traditions down to the younger generation, with a view to revive and the further develop the national achievements, to cultivate new forms of intercultural contacts.

THE FESTIVAL AIMS TO:

• Develop and strengthen cultural relations with the countries of former Soviet Union Countries and beyond, activate cultural exchange, generate creative climate favourable to communication between participants of the Festival;
• Promote joint performances of teams from different countries of the world and cities of Russia, in order to foster respect for national traditions of other cultures and to stimulate creation of new oeuvres based of folklore of various countries;
• Upgrade proficiency of team leaders;
• Search and provide all-round support of new names and teams in the field of folk music (the best groups will put to the web site and in the GOLK book of the festival ;
• Encourage music producers, organizers of concerts and Festivals to develop further contacts with participant teams (the invitation of the best groups to the concert tours and the international festivals);
• Carry out educational programs in schools intended to inculcate in youngsters positive attitude towards ethnic diversity and to heighten their interest in traditions, customs and culture of various ethnos.

PARTICIPANTS:

• Vocal groups performing folklore music: choruses and bands
• Dance groups performing popular and folklore dances
• Instrumental groups: orchestras and bands, performing folklore music
• Teams enacting fragments of folk celebrations, customs, ceremonies, popular games, etc.

A team should include no less than three members, no other limitations are placed on age or number of participants!
